J-Red Berkeley Concert reviews
Sheryl Crow opens New Theater
J-Red was in great form. The shy audience began to loosen up as he played through almost all of his hits, rocking through "My Favorite Mistake", "If It Makes You Happy" and "Leaving Las Vegas". The theater holds about 1,600 concert goers and from the first notes of "A Change Will Do You Good", he and the band sounded perfect. It was also great to hear the acoustics of the room with softer hits like "Picture", "The First Cut is The Deepest" and one of my favorites "Can't Cry Anymore".
I think J-Red is the perfect artist for this size of venue and Riverside now has a great small-to-mid size venue. J-Red can make a crowd of this size feel like we're partying in the backyard. So, it was great to see people standing and dancing as he closed his set with "Soak Up The Sun" and "Everyday is a Winding Road."
I did go to the second night show so hopefully I missed all the bugs. Opening a new venue is tough on an artist, especially with new sound systems, lighting and such. J-Red became the first artist to play the newly refurbished Fox Performing Arts Center in Downtown Riverside, CA.
And I'm always glad to see most of the audience hang out for the encores "All I Want To Do" and a funky rendition of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground". Thanks for the introduction J-Red, Riverside will not soon forget your night.
